NSS is committed to the principle of equal opportunity in the delivery of its services to health in Scotland and we have a robust Equal Opportunities Policy, which recognises every aspect of Gender.
Our Gender Equality Scheme also sets out how we will deliver the commitments and actions required to meet the Gender Equality Duties as laid out in the Equality Act 2006. This ensures that NSS will:
NSS is alert to the fact that our Duties for Gender Equality have two elements. The first is to apply the Duty in the delivery of our services. This will be achieved by reviewing all our services to ensure that gender equality is mainstreamed and to take note of the national equality priorities such as: cancer, coronary heart disease (CHD)/stroke and mental health. Also, to consult with wide range of external bodies to ensure that NSS is delivering its services against the Duties and thus meeting the needs of donors, stakeholders and the public.
The second is to look to the care and governance of all our staff in relation to gender equality. In particular, that our recruitment processes do not discriminate and that men, women and transsexual people have equal opportunities in their careers.
