Promoting Disability Rights
NSS has undertaken to eliminate discrimination and harassment surrounding disability and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people. We wholeheartedly support the principles of equality and diversity and our Disability Equality Scheme sets out how we will deliver the General and Specific Duties required by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (and subsequent amendments). The Disability Equality Scheme will be incorporated into the NSS Equality Scheme and will reflect the recent changes introduced with the Equality Act 2010.
NHS NSS also recognises the importance of including disabled people in the development and delivery of services. To achieve this, NSS will continue to engage with external Disability Reference Groups who provide expert advice on all aspects of service delivery.
The Board and Management of NHS National Services Scotland are also fully committed to ensuring that disability issues are a high priority in the delivery of services and the promotion of equality for disabled people. Throughout the many services, whether these are for patients, the public, donors, stakeholders or our own staff, NSS is committed to challenging vigorously any discrimination. NSS also ensures that staff who have disabilities, are given every opportunity for career enhancement.
