There are 14 local NHS boards which are responsible for all the hospital and primary care services in their area. The local NHS boards are, in turn, supported by the eight national boards which provide a full range of national services.

The Standing Financial Instructions detailing the financial responsibilities adopted by NHS National Services Scotland. These Instructions identify the financial responsibilities of everyone working for NHS National Services Scotland and its constituent parts including Trading Units.

The NSS local Delivery Plan sets out specifically how NHS National Services Scotland will contribute towards meeting the Scottish Government’s HEAT targets and outcomes, and how our activities are aligned with the Scottish Government’s National Outcomes, and Better Health Better Care.

This is the first annual report on surveillance of healthcare associated infection (HAI) in Scotland covering the period January - December 2009.

The aim of this report is to identify key information on HAI in Scotland, demonstrating the burden of infection, trends in infection incidence, to share supplementary epidemiological and microbiological data from the national reference laboratories and identify future priorities.
